It’s Vintage Time!
2012 vintage in a nutshell – A cold, dry winter; a cold, wet spring; and a cooler than average summer. Late budbreak, late flowering, late véraison, and a late harvest, which is only starting to get busy now, well into September.
In the winery at this early stage of harvest, separate lots of Verdelho, Sauvignon Blanc, Alicante Bouschet, Syrah and Trincadeira are fermenting away, already showing some good flavor profiles and potential. The rest of the whites, and most of the reds are still waiting to be picked, benefiting from more hang time made possible due to this year’s unusually moderate summer weather.
