“Few countries, if any, can compete with Portugal’s treasure of varietal diversity and the territorial diversity that sustains it. Certainly, the production of single variety wines is part of the process of understanding that diversity. But the real asset, the value in that varietal diversity, is the complexity of the blend.”

Trincadeira

Facts

Lush fruit and soft tannins

One of the more common indigenous varieties in Southern Portugal, characterized by fruit, and low tannins. Our single varietal Trincadeira bottling shows ripe plum fruit aromas with cinnamon spice and a rich, round palate with lush fruit.

Vintage 2009

An exceptionally cold winter, one of the coldest in 19 years, and a rare snowfall in January! Rainfall was normal at 500mm, mostly concentrated in the winter months, followed by a dry and warm spring and summer. In contrast to chilly January, an unseasonal ‘heat spell’ in February with temperatures in the low 20s triggered a record early budbreak 26th February.

Vinification

Made exclusively from selected Trincadeira grapes hand picked at optimum maturity from chosen sites in our own vineyards. Fermented without stems under temperature control, frequent delestage, to enhance varietal fruit characters, and to provide tannin structure and balance. Aged for 5 months in French oak barrels.

Tasting Notes
