A Royal Visit during harvest

Posted by Carrie on Tuesday September 9th, 2008 at 13:39

Visit of Prins Henrik, Denmark

Yesterday, our busy harvest activities nearly came to a standstill, while we played host to a visit by Henrik, His Royal Highness The Prince Consort of Denmark, the husband of the Queen of Denmark, Margrethe II. Accompanied by a group of friends, he was visiting Portugal to participate in the Cascais Dragon Gold Cup 2008, the Prince being a keen sailor in this class.

Prince Henrik’s desire to visit Cortes de Cima, came as no surprise, Prince Henrik being an avid wine producer himself, at his Chateau de Caix, in Cahors.

Chef Bjarne Otto outdid himself in the kitchen, creating a lovely lunch ‘fit for royalty’, based on the best fresh local ingredients, and paired of course with the full range of Cortes de Cima wines. His Pièce de résistance was his Olive Oil Cake and Ice Cream, made of course with Cortes de Cima Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Chef Otto has promised to share the recipe in one of our next posts!
