‘Sayonara’ to a Japanese oenophile
We would like to say ‘sayonara‘ to the outgoing Japanese ambassador to Portugal and his wife, Mr. Hara Satoshi and Mrs. Hara Michiko. During the ambassador´s tenure in Portugal he confesses to not only having developed a great fondness for the country, the people, the nature, but also for the wines. This special interest in Portuguese wines, brought them to Cortes de Cima last December, when we were honoured to receive them here as guests for our Annual Danish Christmas Lunch. The winery tour conducted by Hans, was followed by a wine tasting and paired with Chef Bjarne Otto’s scrumptious Danish christmas buffet lunch.
“Among many others, Portugal will be remembered with: Deep blue sky at Arrábida mountains (Sétubal); thrilling rides on electrico No.28 in Lisboa; roaring crashed pure white waves at Ilha Berlenga (Peniche); magnificent panorama of Lisbon Bay from Casa da Cerca (Almada); unobstructed view of Açores islands from the summit of Portugal’s highest Monte Pico; solemn tranquility inside Convento de Santa Maria da Vitória (Batalha); sweating mountain walk of Pico Ruivo (Madeira) with cliffs, cliffs and clifs; leisurely sip of Vinho Tinto watching beautiful flying cegonhas (storks) in Comporta (Tróia).” – Ambassador HARA Satoshi
Japan was one of our earliest export markets, we started exporting wines to Harimaya in Osaka in 2001.
コルテス・デ・シーマ 赤 = translation = Cortes de Cima in Japanese!
LATEST UPDATE, 26 October -
We just received news from our friend, Ambassador HARA Satoshi, that upon leaving Portugal, he has assumed a new post as Ambassador for Kansai, the region which covers Osaka, Kyoto, Kobe, Nara and other central part of the Honshu main island. We wish to extend a hardy congratulations in this wise appointment, as Mr. HARA Satoshi with his wealth of worldly experience and knowledge is an excellent choice to nurture Kansai’s relations with the outside world.
As chance will have it, Ambassador HARA Satoshi can continue enjoying Portuguese wines in his new posting, as Kansai province is the home of our wine distributor Harimaya!

Dear Danish Oeniphilii !
What I would ask his Excellency is to compose gracefully a Haiku on Cortes de Cima Wines !
Remember Kazuo Dan ?

A fun idea, and interesting to remember Kazuo Dan in the same context!
The Ambassador has shown he has a special talent to describe his Portuguese experiences in his musings which he has penned here:

Dear Carrie,
in Japan, when on Tanegashima is Fesuta Porutogaru (Portugal Festival)…how many Portuguese do you think are participating ?
http://japonmonamour.blogspot......al-da.html
I hope many Japanese will say konichiwa Carriesan next time in Tanegashima and taste your wine.
I do not see any “sentimento caloroso” of Portuguese…
And selling wine…is obviously not of their interest !

For those of you who need some brushing up on your Luso/Japanese history, Tanegashima, an island lying to the south of Kyūshū, south Japan, is celebrated as the place where Mendes Pinto landed when he found his way to Japan in 1543. I am also curious to know how many Portuguese participate in the Fesuta Porutogaru?
