Jancis Robinson Latest Reviews

Reviews of some of our new releases by Jancis Robinson, August 2016

Cortes de Cima Touriga Nacional 2012 - Score 17/20 -  “Ripe and luscious - very confident - with good balance of fruit, tannin and acidity. Drinking well now.”

Cortes de Cima Pinot Noir 2014Score 16.5/20 -  “A most unexpected treat - Pinot Noir from the relatively hot Alentejo… Quite a fragile little thing but very pretty indeed with lovely balance and purity of fruit. It must have taken quite a lot to get the oak impact gentle enough. Really flattering and fresh but not sweet. For early drinking - with great pleasure.”

Cortes de Cima Sauvignon Blanc 2015 - Score 16.5/20  - “Very creditable straightforward Sauvignon aromas that rather remind me of some of the best Chilean Sauvignons made within sight of the Pacific. Mouthfilling and very wellbalanced. Pure gren varietal dry Sauvignon fruit. Super zesty. Perhaps not recognisably Portuguese but a good wine. This vineyad (which presumably produced the Pinot) seems promising!”

Cortes de Cima Aragonez 2013Score 16.5/20 -  “Scented and refreshing on the nose but obviously ripe, savoury fruit underneath. Pretty varietally typical with that aroma I describe as 'tobacco leaves'. Very confident and well balanced but the tannins suggest there is still lots to deliver.  This would give many a Rioja a run for its money…”

Incógnito 2012  -   Score 16+/20 - “Sweet and spicy - nothing like the northern Rhône - much richer.  More like a top Languedoc Syrah, it seems to me.  Still a little bit chewy on the end.”

Cortes de Cima Trincadeira 2014  -  Score 16/20  - “Sweet, purple-fruited and lightly gamey. A useful educational varietal example?  Very very slightly pinched on the finish but well made.“

Cortes de Cima 2014 Branco - Score 16/20  -  “Just a hint of oak evident on the nose and really peachy fruit. The Viognier seems almost to dominate the freshness of Alvarinho and Sauvignon but the whole is pleasing and well balanced.”
