Known as Tempranillo in Spain, and Tinta Roriz in the north of Portugal. Always an elegant wine, it has richness with structure and outstanding tannins, which impart a good ageing ability.
A dry winter, followed by a cold and wet spring. A moderate summer, which heated up in August. A delayed growing season, with late flowering, ripening and a large harvest. High Acids, ripe tannins.
Made exclusively from selected Aragonez (Tempranillo) grapes hand-picked at optimum maturity from chosen sites in our own vineyards. Fermented without stems under temperature control, frequent delestage, followed by extended skin maceration to enhance varietal fruit characters, and to provide tannin structure and balance. Aged for 12 months in French Oak (90%) and American Oak (10%), and then blended to give balanced varietal fruit and oak components.
There are notes of polished leather, spice, licorice and dark chocolate. It is full and silky in the mouth with excellent depth and a finish carried by round tannins.
“A richly endowed wine, full of firm black fruits as well as acidity. With its structured aftertaste, it is dense and serious.” - 91 points - Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast
“This opens with a refined yet rich feel, the flavor controlled, but notable. It is smooth, fruity and elegant. ... it always drank beautifully, showing harmony and balance. It is a perfect table wine, something that will match the food, not overwhelm it. DRINK 2016 – 2027" - Mark Squires, Robert Parker
“A snappy red, with plenty of zesty red fruit and wild spice flavors. Sandalwood notes in the midpalate, with a finish that is creamy and rich-tasting.“ Kim Marcus, Wine Spectator
“Scented and refreshing on the nose but obviously ripe, savoury fruit underneath. Pretty varietally typical with that aroma I describe as 'tobacco leaves'. Very confident and well balanced but the tannins suggest there is still lots to deliver. This would give many a Rioja a run for its money…” Score 16.5/20 - Jancis Robinson
