Characterized by very favorable growing season conditions and led to one of the best vintages in recent years. Cold and dry winter, warm and dry summer, free of heat waves, dry September.
Well ripened fruit. Fermented without stems under controlled temperature, with frequent pisage and delestage. Aged for 12 months in French (80%), American (20%) oak barrels, and then blended to give balanced varietal fruit and oak complexity. Bottled, unfined and filtered.
Translucent garnet in color with a purple edge, the wine resonates with deep earthy aromas of iron, graphite and red clay. Intertwined there are layers of prunes, ripe persimmon and redcurrant jelly and sweet spice providing a clove and vanilla lift. Ripe but firm structure anchors the earthy, savoury elements that transcend into the palate. The wine finishes in a drawn out dance between the lifted aromatics and clay like tannin.
