Cortes de Cima Touriga Nacional

Best known as one of the 5 main varieties used for Port wine, further south here in the Alentejo it’s fruit develops a highly floral and aromatic character.

Vintage 2015

Characterized by very favorable growing season conditions and led to one of the best vintages in recent years. Cold and dry winter, warm and dry summer, free of heat waves, dry September.

Vinification

100% Touriga Nacional grown sustainably on the ancient clay over limestone soils in own vineyards surrounding our estate in Vidigueira.

This single parcel was harvested separately according to ripeness. The fruit was destemmed and gently crushed, following fermentation under temperature control for 2 weeks in stainless steel tanks, with gentle punchdowns, pumpovers and delestage. The wine matured for 8 months in  French (95%) and American (5%) oak barrels.

Reciews

“Suave, refined and sophisticated, this velvety Touriga adds fine blue fruit (and just a hint of vanilla) on the finish. It is full enough to coat the palate but still focused and elegant. It is impeccably balanced yet persistent and capable of developing in the cellar. This is beautifully done, a candidate for the winery's best Touriga yet. It has some things to prove to me in the cellar, but this looks like a beauty. With its ripe tannins, you can approach it now. It will likely be better in 2020. It should hold for a decade or so after that.” Mark Squires, The Wine Advocate, December 2018

"Very well balanced and long… lots of pleasure now.” - Julia Harding MW, JancisRobinson.com, October 2018
