17/20 - Cortes de Cima Reserva Branco 2016

"Magnum. 80% Chardonnay, 20% Alvarinho fermented and aged in large barrels, many used. Some lees stirring. Grown on the coast and put into 900 magnums. Pale greenish straw. Toasty nose suggests the wine may be sweet but not a bit of it - extremely refreshing green acidity reminiscent of lime peel and lime blossom. Very zippy and cooling. Grown-up wine that is much fresher and more refreshing than many a white Burgundy. Good stuff!" - JR - Drink 2018 - 2023 (producers note: This is a cellar sample, expected release date is 2019)

16.5/20 - Cortes de Cima Branco 2016

"Alvarinho and Sauvignon Blanc partly aged in French oak. Pale greenish gold. The oak seems more dominant on the nose of this than of the Reserva 2016. Some apparent light sweetness but definite ocean breeze wafts through this wine. Very refreshing. Clean as a whistle. Slightly grainier texture than the Reserva."  JR - Drink 2018 - 2020

16.5/20 - Cortes de Cima Branco 2015

"Grown on the coast and partially fermented and aged in French oak. Med gold. Floral and fresh with some creme patissière on the nose. Broader and a little less crisp than the 2016 but still very clean, fresh and youthful." - JR - Drink 2017 - 2019

16.5/20 - Cortes de Cima Alvarinho 2016

"From this producer's coastal plantings. Smells much more substantial than Rias Baixas examples from further north - almost biscuity. Attractive sourness and density. Bone dry and far from inconsequential. Extremely appetising and gripping. Long and a whole new chapter in the book of this grape variety. Really gets the saliva flowing." - JR - Drink 2017 - 2019

16/20 - Cortes de Cima Alvarinho 2015

"From the coast. Very pale gold. The same sourness as on the nose of the 2016. Firm and with real (dry) grip on the palate. A little bit stern. I could do with a tad more fruit here but it's certainly got good density." - JR - Drink 2016 - 2018

16.5/20 - Cortes de Cima Alvarinho 2014

"From coastal vineyards. Greenish pale gold. Really quite delicate and elegant - with more finesse than the 2015. And more of the Atlantic innate 'coolness' on the palate. Very neat and probably at peak now. Less dense than the 2015 and 2016 - possibly more sophisticated? " - JR - Drink 2015 - 2019
