An exceptionally early and compressed harvest, resulting from one of the hottest and driest years in decades.
This blend of Aragonez, Syrah and Pinot Noir results from the fusion of two distinct terroirs. Pinot Noir, grown in sandy soils in our cool, Alentejan Atlantic coastal vineyards, provides freshness and elegance to balance the fruit generosity of the Aragonez and Syrah grown further inland, on the ancient clay over limestone soils surrounding the Estate.
Each parcel was harvested separately according to ripeness. The fruit was destemmed and gently crushed, following fermentation under temperature control for 2 weeks in stainless steel tanks, with gentle punchdowns, pumpovers and delestage. The Pinot Noir was aged in used French oak barriques for 10 months, while the Syrah and Aragonez aged in tank on fine lees. The wine was blended and bottled at the estate on April 2019.
